Spalding and Basketball NSW Continue to Play Ball Together

Basketball New South Wales and Spalding are pleased to announce a partnership extension between the two organisations.

The partnership sees Spalding continue as the Naming rights, Official Game Ball and Official Backboard supplier of Basketball NSW leagues, competitions and teams, taking it to the end of 2022.

Basketball continues to be the second highest team participation sport in Australia. In NSW, the sport continues to grow in both participation and registered participants, with an analysis of data showing significant growth being recorded over the past 4 years. There was an 11.3% growth from 2018 to 2019 and 67,641 registered people playing basketball.

Following on from the disruption to the game earlier this year due to COVID, there was an influx of registrations from 1 July with a 49.4% growth for the State compared to the Q3 in 2019.

“Spalding is thrilled to have extended our partnership with Basketball NSW for a further two years. The game is continuing to grow at all levels, and with Sydney being host to the Women’s World Cup in 2022, it is sure to be an exciting time for the sport. We are looking forward to continuing to work with Basketball NSW and ensuring that the game continues to flourish at all levels.” Says Chris Lambert, Managing Director of Spalding Australia.

Basketball NSW CEO, Maria Nordstrom is thrilled about the opportunities the partnership extension will bring.

“We are happy to continue the variation of our original agreement with Spalding which will be beneficial to both parties and will assist us in growing the game in all facets of the sport with their continued support in the aim that every child has a Spalding basketball in their hands.”

To help encourage greater engagement and participation in the game across NSW, the partnership will once again see thousands of balls provided for the Sport Australia’s Sporting Schools program, to support kids being active and taking to the court. Spalding is dedicated to investing in basketball at all levels of the game - grassroots to elite.

The extended agreement also provides better opportunity for the Basketball Associations in NSW to take part in the agreement through an association royalty program.

Together Spalding and Basketball NSW look forward to the next two years and supporting basketball across the state. Globally, Spalding continues to be the leading basketball equipment brand with a comprehensive offering of Balls, Backboard Systems and Accessories.
