Spalding Launches the Official WNBL Game Ball

Spalding is thrilled to unveil the Official Game Ball for the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL), with one of the greatest Australians to have ever played the game, Lauren Jackson.

Following her triumphant return to professional basketball at the 2022 FIBA World Cup in Sydney, Jackson donned the green and gold for one final time alongside her Opals teammates to take home a bronze medal. Despite hanging up her jersey more than six years ago, it doesn’t stop there for the seasoned legend, Jackson is set to continue her comeback, joining Melbourne’s own Southside Flyers in the 22/23 WNBL season. To celebrate her highly anticipated return to the WNBL, the Spalding has partnered with Jackson to launch the new Game Ball for the elite women’s league.

Featuring a bold new colour palette and panel design, the new ball infuses WNBL brand components, elevating it to a premium visual aesthetic that replicates the elite standing of the basketball league.

“Spalding are proud to be a partner of the WNBL, supporting Women’s sport in our country, and are thrilled to unveil the new ball design for the upcoming season. Lauren has an incredible legacy and has captured the hearts of the nation over the course of her iconic basketball career, and we are excited to have her assist us in launching the next phase of the WNBL ball. We are looking forward to seeing the ball in action throughout the course of the season, as well as inspiring future stars to pick up a Spalding and hit the court, “says Naomi Maclean, Marketing Director at Spalding.

Offering its highest level of composite leather (TF-1000), the ZK composite material features enhanced feel and durability, advanced moisture management and deep channel design for superior control. The ball also features a wet grip microfibre composite, providing an elite moisture kicking surface.

Spalding is committed to continuing to shine a spotlight on women’s basketball in Australia. From the Opals through to the National Teams in the WNBL, Spalding Australia has been the Official Ball sponsor for the elite women’s league since 2010.

Head of WNBL, Christy Collier-Hill says, “The WNBL is once again thrilled to be partnering with Spalding for the upcoming season. They’ve been long-time supporters of not only the league, but women’s basketball in general. We’re also super excited to see a brand new WNBL Spalding ball hitting the court this season and can’t wait to see it in action.”

Launching on 2 November 2022 during Round 1 of the WNBL, the ball is set to make its first slam dunk during the game between Perth Lynx and the Melbourne Boomers.
