The WNBL is ready to Tip-off!

The WNBL season is here, and it is ready to be the best season yet! From busy off-season’s, playing abroad and in local leagues around Australia, the best female basketball players are back to bring another season of great play. Last season saw the Townsville Fire dominate the back end of the season and win the championship, so the big question will be if they can go back-to-back.

Townsville are the early favourites, but will be challenged by the Melbourne Boomers, last season’s Grand Finalists Southside Flyers, and the Sydney Flames. Sydney hope that their new look roster including new dynamic duo of reigning MVP Cayla George and Lauren Nicholson will be able to help them take a leap this season.

Lauren Jackson returns for the Southside Flyers, after a successful return from injury for the Opals. With an international tournament next year, Jackson, and other Opals players will be wanting to take their form into the next level, to ensure their selection for the next Opal’s camp. That added motivation promises to make this edition of the WNBL one of the best yet.

The league’s growth is proven with star imports and star Opals choosing to play in the league from off-season’s abroad. This includes new Boomers star Jordin Canada and Flames guard/forward DiDi Richards joining the league, and star Opal Jade Melbourne continuing with the Capitals, after playing overseas in the off-season.
